Return to Crystal Palace~

Dress - Motel Rocks
Mesh top - Boohoo
Boots - Topshop
Necklace - The Rogue + The Wolf

So... it's been a while, huh? I have to say, despite not having done an OOTD shoot in quite a while, this was probably one of the more successful ones! Thank goodness!

The shoot was done in Crystal Palace Park which I have only been to once before for another photoshoot, only that time I was the photographer. Mad to think that 5 years later I'd be the model! Okay, so I'm not a model, but you know what I mean! Note to any bloggers/photographers/etc., this is a great location for shoots; lots of variety in scenery and fairly little traffic!

As for my outfit, this is one of my favourite dresses cut-wise and material-wise. I have this exact same dress in plain black and honestly, I'm a little sad Motel don't do more dresses like these anymore; sometimes you need to have more cute than sexy in your wardrobe!! However, it is a bit more of a summer dress, despite the colour palette, so I chose to match it with a mesh top to give a more Autumn/Winter feel, alongside my favourite ankle boots.

A shame I didn't amp up the make-up though - you can barely see it! So sad... anyway, finally another OOTD posted, I promise there will be more in the near future, so please don't give up on me!!

Review? Nyx Cosmetics~

Nyx Cosmetics has recently exploded onto the UK scene after finally launching in-stores in Boots nationwide (despite also having previously been available online) and I have to say that I too am totes in love with this brand!

For me the selling point is this: they are a cruelty free company selling a large selection of conventional and non-conventional shades to suit everyone’s tastes and at an affordable price point. The one thing I will point out, however, is that the international pricing is super inconsistent, which is a little bit annoying (see example below), but that’s just how the cookie crumbles I guess...

Nyx Lip Suedes:
UK = £6.50
US = $7.00 (about £5.40)
Norway = NOK109 (about £10.20)

Silly, right? Anyway, onto the products. I currently only own lip products, but as I mentioned before the thing about Nyx that really caught my eye was the variety of non-conventional colours that they offered.

I love the texture of this! It’s really creamy and thick and because it’s so pigmented application is super quick and easy for full coverage. It doesn’t dry down fully and maintains tackiness, which means that it is definitely not transfer proof. However, apart from when eating, the colour lasts really well and won’t become patchy even when rubbing your lips together. Overall, love this product, need more colours!

I first discovered these after watching one of Jessica Haze’s (/mirrorsandhaze) videos and fell in love with the colour ‘Embellishment’ and just had to have it! Unlike the lip suede this does dry completely matte (though still with a very slight tackiness to it) so is almost completely transfer proof. Because of this, however, it is very drying on the lips, but I mean, that’s to be expected with liquid to matte lipsticks, right? My one sadness with this product is that, sigh, my skin tone doesn’t do it justice, as it’s meant to have quite a noticeable lilac undertone which is pretty much non-existent against my skin, but that’s my fault rather than the products, so what can you do. =/

Lastly we have one of their matte lipsticks. This is probably the product I use the most, despite this being my least favourite of the three. I love the colour and the texture of the product, though it is a little on the cheap side in terms of staying power and evenness of application and isn’t really as matte as I had hoped. On top of that, the packaging sucks a fair bit as the bullet doesn’t click in properly and frequently shifts to hitting the lid when in my bag, which is super annoying. Other than that though, for the price and the pigmentation, it’s definitely worth a go.

So that's my review-not-so-review on Nyx Cosmetics - I highly recommend anyone that hasn't tried some of their stuff to go out and do so! I know I will definitely making a few more purchases in the near future (*ehem* despite having no money *ehem*)!! ;D

Holiday Beauty Haul!~

Someone once said to me that the whole point of going on holiday was to spend money, and while I still argue that that isn’t really true, I sadly did end up spending all the money during my recent summer holiday trip, sigh.

Okay, so looking at it all, it’s not really all THAT much, but still, quite excessive for someone with no money and especially weird for someone who probably uses beauty products like, once a week… =/

But how could I help myself? Look at all that Sephora goodness!! Why don’t we have a Sephora yet anywhere in the UK?! Oh, the injustice… but anyway, whilst having the rare pleasure of being in an ACTUAL Sephora store I had to pick up some of their little own brand products and the mini perfumes in particular are just the perfect stocking filler type purchase I just couldn’t resist!

Tarte Tartelette In Bloom (Tartelette 2) palette - (currently unavailable on QVC, sadly)

Also in Sephora I picked up these lovelies as, sadly, they aren’t available anywhere in the UK either, so… yeah. Actually, that’s a lie, Tarte products recently became available on QVC, but it’s not really the same as buying the stuff in person, amirate?! And the ‘Tartelette In Bloom’ palette has been on my wishlist ever since it first came out and I saw Bunny (a.k.a. Grav3yardGirl) post a video about it and I am sooooo happy to finally own it, so yayyy! And it smells good too!

Look at how cute these bits are!! I know that ‘kawaii’ is Japanese and Tony Moly is a Korean brand, but whatever, all their stuff is just so kawaiiii!! Upon visiting their store I made it a point to leave with at least one panda product  (thank you tumblr) and just look at how cute that panda eye stick is?! And it works well too, so worth it! As for the bamboo gel thing, look at that packaging! Not as cute, but still very cool!

(honestly not sure where to find links to this stuff online, sorry!)

Lastly, I got a few interesting things I found in Daiso, which is basically like Poundland but the Japanese version. I’ve noticed there’s been a bit of a craze with charcoal beauty products recently and couldn’t help myself when I saw these as I reaaaally wanted to try it out but couldn’t afford anything back home, so I’m really happy I found these! Goodness knows after the torture my skin has been going through this summer I’m going to need some extra help, and if YouTube is telling the truth then this should do the trick!

So again, not THAT much stuff, but still enough to be considered a haul, right? At least it’s a new post I guess… first post of the year, woop woop! (lol, whoops more like it’s already september!!)

BONUS: I SPENT SO MUCH MONEY AT SEPHORA I GOT ALL THESE FREE SAMPLES! HOW AWESOME IS THAT?!!? xD

Once in a blue moon...~

Denim shorts - £5 (on sale!) - H&M
Denim jacket - £18 - Primark
Leather boots - £54.50 (on sale!) - Irregular Choice
Yes, once in a blue moon I manage to find the time (and the help) to actually take some photos for a bloody post! Gasp! Maybe if I spent a little less money on clothes and jewellery I might actually be able to afford a self-timer so that I can take pictures by myself...

But excuses aside, this post is mainly to show that I am still determined to keep this thing alive and to push myself (again) to try even harder, dammit! (and also to show off some of my latest goodies!)

So yeah, hopefully there won't be any more huge gaps between posts from now on, but just in case there are... sorry blogspot, I swear I haven't given up on you!! ><"

Jewellery Haul!!~ (Black Moon, Noctua, Accessorize, etc.)

This post honestly would have come out sooner, had I not been a little too ambitious and attempted to actually make a haul video, but, then I realised that I don't have the editing software, memory space, etc., so that was a fail. Instead, I'll have to break up my rather formidable late-2014-early-2015 haul and we're gonna start with jewellery, woo!

So right at the end of December I decided to go a little crazy and buy myself a load of trinkets because, hey, why not actually get some Christmas presents for once, even if they're from me to me? And so I did!

(L-R)

These first items come from a site called Noctua, which I happened on by chance when I realised that most online stores for this kind of jewellery (think Druzy Dreams, Shop Dixi, Regal Rose, etc.), though super popular amongst bloggers, are just that tiny bit out of my price range.

All the items themselves are very reasonably priced and are just as lovely in person as they are in the photos. The piece I was most excited about was the 'Blandior' choker, and I am just loving it! ^^

Up next is this stunning choker by Black Moon and I absolutely adore this piece! It reminds me of the chokers by Regal Rose, and although I'm sure the quality is not quite on par, the Black Moon version is still a pretty awesome alternative at a fraction of the cost.

(L-R)
'Indian Princess' ring - £14
Star and Moon stacking rings - £15
Moonstone ring - £7 (approx.)
Wishbone ring - £12 (approx.)
Abalone shell ring - £14 (approx.)

I went a bit crazy when it came to rings because I had just become SO sick of buying rings from stores like H&M and Forever 21 and having my fingers turn green within a couple of hours of wearing them, SO, I felt it a reasonable investment to buy a bunch of sterling silver rings instead! The first two are from Accessorize and I'm a little annoyed to be honest because had I waited another couple of weeks I could have gotten them in the sale instead! Baka...

The other three I purchased from the Stables Market in Camden (an essential shopping stop when visiting london!) and I am sooo happy with these, you have no idea! The reason they all say 'approx.' after the prices is because I've forgotten how much they were all supposed to be seeing as how I haggled for better prices on all of them... but yeah, I'd been trawling through sites like Amelia May and Gemporia, but for the most part the rings I found were either too expensive or just weren't my style, so thank goodness for market haggling!

Luna necklace - £3.50

This lovely cresent moon necklace was an absolute steal at a mere £3.50 and I picked it up from an etsy store called The Moon Above. Most stores I've browsed through are selling almost identical pieces for anything from £8 to £18! Plus, the chain on this is silver plated, so I won't be having to worry about my neck going green any time soon! ^^

So that's all the jewellery I've been spending all ma money on recently. I'm really happy with everything that I've bought (so much so that I'm constantly tempted to buy more!) it's been really fun to have all these new things to layer and style with outfits. Yayyy.

Rewind, stop. Play.

Hat - River Island
Jumper - dresslink.com
Necklace - The Moon Above

Hi everyone! My name is Philippa, I'm 21 years old and I'm from London. I started this blog a while back on a whim of sorts and for a while was quite good at maintaining it. I then started to slack, however, due to lack of ideas, lack of material and lack of time. How sad. BUT, with the new year comes new beginnings and so here I am, ready to start over and begin again! Yayyy! For those of you that are new here, expect to find ramblings on fashion, music, make-up and how little money I have from spending on all of the above. Enjoy! ^^

"Coz every night I have to say, goodbye..."~

Disclaimer: This isn't really a gig review, but rather some disjointed and sappy drivel partially about the gig but not entirely which would probably be better suited on my Livejournal, but whatever, let's ignore that and make this an exception. I'd like to think a little variety is always good. ;]

"Elliot Minor aren't that good." -April 2008

Back in 2007 when I first stumbled upon this band I had no idea how much they would come to mean to me. Even when I was already starting to fall hard for them I was persistant in dismissing them as a brief phase which I would only indulge in due to convenience at the time. Fast forward 7 years and 17 gigs and I find myself repeatedly cringing at the words above which I so harshly wrote in an early gig review which once featured on my MySpace (and it was actually a postive one at that!). No, I suppose they aren't technically impressive in the same way a band like Dream Theater is or anywhere near as history making as a band like Queen, but somehow they have cemented for themselves a place deep within my heart and really, that's all that actually matters, right?

Last weekend they played their '#EMonemoretime' shows in London by way of a final hurrah after almost 4 years on hiatus. I was only able to attend the second night of three (29.03.2014) due to limited funds and what-not, and while the show wasn't particularly grand or awe-inspiring or flawless even (you'd think 3 months would be enough time to re-learn the lyrics to a few songs), it still stirred something in me. I felt a sense of sentimentality I was sure I had forced out of myself at least in the last year and for a while I allowed myself to bask in blissful nostalgia. No, I didn't suddenly feel like a screaming teenage fangirl again, but I did find myself unintentionally smiling like an idiot every now and then throughout the night.

The setlist itself was mediocre, consisting of all the typical numbers and the intimate venue meant that there was very limited special effects (in fact, there was only one very cheeky smoke machine). Nothing fancy, nothing complicated, it was just a simple, raw gig, ideal for fans to appreciate the music without distraction.

[i know i shouldn't be blaming my inadequate photography on anything but my own lack of skill, but seriously, the lighting in the underworld sucks. way too much red and not enough lighting on anywhere other than center-stage.]

Whether or not this is truly the end for Elliot Minor remains to be seen. I for one, among many others I'm sure, have my doubts, especially seeing as how I recall overhearing just last summer Alex stating that they would never reform and now they're suddenly saying "maybe, you never know!". I've had a lot of happy and interesting memories and experiences over the years with these guys to thank as cause and source and regardless of what the future holds for EM, all I can say is that I am proud to have been a part of their history as a dedicated fan, and even though they randomly unfollowed me on Twitter for no good reason, I wish them all the best with whatever they decide.

Highlights!
-watching a good portion of the show surrounded by thick smoke; ed m. was literally less than 2 metres in front of me and i swear i couldn't even see him! awesome! (note the heavy sarcasm)*
-finally getting to hear 'parallel worlds' as the closing song of the set once more (where it belongs, btw)
-having a fairly decent view of dan and ali, which has only happened for me once, maybe twice, before
-the first words spoken to me by ed m. being "i definitely remember you!", despite having not seen me in over 3 years and me not prompting for such a comment. seriously, what stupid thing did i do for such notoriety? i was too shocked and worried to ask at the time...**
-drunk brian leaving teeth marks in my skull and then suddenly swinging me around despite my usual utter dislike for my feet leaving the ground without warning
-getting to, only for the 6th time surprisingly, have a complete set of photos with the band, thus, meaning that i actually got to have one-on-one time with everyone, brief and chaotic as it was

 ... and finally...
Alex Davies (vocals, guitar), Ali Paul (keyboard), Dan Hetherton (drums), Ed Minton (vocals, guitar), Ed 'Teddy' Hetherton (bass),
and Brian 'Puke' Parnell (guitar tech dude)

*not a complaint by the way, i was amused more than anything, though it did make taking decent photos near damn impossible...
**also not a complaint. in fact, i was and still am rather flattered. it's not every day an attractive (and, i suppose, somewhat famous) male vaguely acknowledges and recognises me, especially after such passing of time... xD

PS.: yes, i know the '2014' is slightly off-center, but i only noticed after i'd closed the photo editing site and could not be bothered to have to start again from scratch!
PPS.: just as a 'fun fact' the photos from 2008 and 2010 were taken in birmingham and oxford, respectively
PPPS.: and yes, i do realise that the title of this post is just sooo cheesy, but it had to be done! for those of you who don't know, it's a line taken from an elliot minor song called 'last call to new york city'.
